Prudents helps ordinary people make smart decisions to protect their money.

We publish free articles about scams and money decisions. They show how to recognize a scam, what to do after one, and what to check before you sign up for insurance, a card or another financial service.

What Prudents does

Articles about scams

Our articles explain how common scams work, from fake bank texts to marketplace fraud, and what to do if one already reached you. They also cover account security, identity theft and phone security.

Insurance guides

The insurance guides describe how a coverage is built, which terms change the result, what is usually excluded and which questions are worth asking before you buy. They do not tell you which company to choose.

Why Prudents exists

Scammers use prepared messages, personal data and even technology that imitates someone’s voice. The person receiving the contact is usually in the middle of the day and just wants to solve a problem.

Prudents started in Brazil after we saw this happen to people close to us. We also noticed that most material on the subject used difficult terms or only listed specific scams, which change all the time. Over time it became clear that a scam is only one way to lose money: an insurance policy nobody explained or a contract that is hard to cancel also costs a lot.

What we believe

The scammer is always the one to blame

Falling for a scam is not a lack of intelligence. The trap is built to deceive, to pressure and to leave no time to check. Someone who was scammed needs help, not blame.

Scams change, but some signs repeat

There is no point in memorizing every scam. They change, but they usually rely on the same tools, such as urgency, fake authority and requests to keep a secret. Knowing those signs helps you recognize a new attempt too.

The contract decides, not the brand

A policy name tells you almost nothing. Two policies with the same name can pay very differently after the same loss. When an article of ours says something is usually covered, it also says that your own contract is what settles it.

No promise of a result

Nobody can guarantee that a person will never fall for a scam, that a claim will be paid or that a coverage is enough for you. We teach signs and ways to check a situation, to lower the risk and help you decide calmly.

What we teach

It is not always possible to tell a scam just by looking at the message. That is why we teach simple habits:

  • The channel. Contact the company yourself, using the app already on your phone or the number printed on your card. Do not use the link or the phone number that came in the message.
  • The address. Read the website address carefully before you type any information.
  • The recipient. Before you send money, look at the name of the person or company that will receive it.

These habits work even when you cannot name the scam. We do not recommend investments and we do not give advice for your specific case.

Who Prudents is for

  • Anyone who got a strange message, call or bill and wants to know if it is a scam.
  • Anyone who was already scammed and needs to know what to do now.
  • Sons, daughters and grandchildren who want to protect their parents and grandparents.
  • Anyone about to buy insurance, a card or another financial service who wants to understand the terms first.
  • Teachers, schools, companies and groups who want to use our material to help other people.

Who writes

This page shows no photos, names or personal stories of the founders. We want the trust to come from the quality and the sources of what we publish.

We also protect the people who work on the project. Prudents deals with a sensitive subject, explains how scammers operate and receives reports about people who use the names of well known brands.

Every article links to the sources we used and lists them at the end, so you can check a claim yourself. Examples of scam messages are written by us to teach and never use real victims’ conversations. Every text, and every image made with artificial intelligence, is reviewed by a person. The full rules are in our editorial policy.

How support works

Our only support channel is [email protected], and we reply within 2 business days. We do not take questions by phone, by any other email address or through a social media profile. Common questions are answered in our help center.

How Prudents pays for this

The articles are free to read. Prudents sells educational material in Portuguese, on its Brazilian site. The site may also show ads from third party advertising networks. The network chooses those ads, not Prudents, and no advertiser decides what we publish. We do not sell your data, we are not paid by banks, insurers or government bodies, and we do not take money to place a company in an article. When a link of ours can earn a commission, that is stated on the page itself.

What Prudents is not

  • We are not a bank, an insurer, the police or a government office, and we have no ties to any of them.
  • We do not sell insurance, quote prices, file claims or recover money, accounts, passwords or profiles.
  • We are not licensed to give insurance, legal, tax or investment advice.
  • We never ask for a password, a verification code, a photo of a document or access to your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is Prudents connected to a bank, an insurer or a government body?

No. Prudents is independent and is not paid by banks, insurers or government bodies to speak well of them.

Can Prudents get back money lost to a scam?

No. Only your bank or card issuer can try to stop or reverse a payment. If the scam is happening now, call them using the number printed on your card or the app already on your phone.

Can you tell me if a specific message is a scam?

We do not review individual messages by email, because we cannot investigate each case as fast as it would need. Our articles show how to check the situation through the company’s official channel.

Does Prudents ever ask for a password or a verification code?

Never. If someone asks for that information in Prudents’ name, it is a scam. Please let us know at [email protected].

Why don’t the founders appear on the site?

For safety and privacy. Prudents shows how scammers operate and receives reports about people who use the names of well known brands, so we prefer not to expose the people who work on the project.

How does Prudents make money?

By selling educational material in Portuguese, through third party ads and through affiliate links, which are always disclosed on the page. No advertiser decides what we publish.

Where to start

If a message is worrying you right now, start with the article about that kind of scam. If you are reading an insurance policy, start with the guide for that coverage and read the exclusions before the price.
